Examples of Grants Awarded

$6,950. Senior Brain Power....A grant was made for Walton County Senior Citizens Council, Inc. providing activities to stimulate brain function and decrease tendency for Alzheimer and dementia diseases.

$112,700. Countywide Preventive Positive Youth Development and Health Education....WCHCF supports the Partnership for Families, Children and Youth in implementing their five year program along with contributions from the Walton County Commissioners and Walton County and Social Circle Boards of Education. The Foundation’s participation in the program will reduce 20% annually over 5 years as the Boards' participation increases.

$2,000. Connect With Kids....The Social Circle Board of Education established a two-part program for prevention of health problems in teenagers in 2006. WCHCF funded the first part in 2006, and supported the second part focusing on Emotional Health along with the Georgia Department of Education in 2007.

$5,000. FISH Personal Care Item Program....A renewal of grant funds to continue to support FISH in the purchase of personal care items to accompany food packages.

$4,750. Senior Citizens Health Fair....A renewal of grant funds to continue flu and pneumonia shots, blood work and other enhanced services for Seniors age 60-65 who are indigent, uninsured, and do not qualify for Medicare. This renewal also helped to provide enhanced services to reach more people over the 2006 Health Fair.

$44,000. Healthcare Lab Development....Walton Career Academy is building a health care teaching lab for their use and the use of Athens Tech. The grant was for equipment for this lab.

$2,500. Walton County Health Care Foundation Educational Access Fund....Athens Tech requested funding to set up a fund to assist purchasing of teaching items necessary for Walton County students who could not afford to purchase items such as workbooks, lab supplies, scrubs, etc. The original request was for $50,000 to set up a perpetual fund paying out $2,500 a year. The Foundation opted to contribute $2,500 the first year and asked that Athens Tech provide a report on actual support provided and request a renewal of the fund in future years.

$9,400. A Child's Advocacy Center....50% grant with Arnold Fund of Covington to fund purchase of forensic equipment for battered and molested children of Newton and Walton Counties.

$5,000. FISHCARE....A grant to purchase personal care items to accompany food packages. Items included were toothpaste, deodorant, soap and shampoo.

$11,500. Prescription Assistance Program....FISH pays for interim prescription drugs while they are qualifying recipients for other assistance. The grant was to help reimburse the costs of these prescription drugs.

$2,500. Senior Citizens Health Fair....Grant paid for flu and pneumonia shots and blood work for Seniors age 60-65 who are indigent, uninsured, and do not qualify for Medicare.

$11,700. Van for Seniors' Meals on Wheels....The meal delivery van was in disrepair. WCHCF made a matching grant to purchase a replacement van to deliver meals in Walton County including Social Circle and Loganville locations.

$18,832. Healthy Students = High Achieving Students....A grant was made to equip the school clinic at the Social Circle Middle/High School. The Social Circle Board of Education was challenged to build the lab for an estimated $20,000 and WCHCF would equip it.

$4,000. Nutrition Education Program....Grant supports Walton County Extension Service Nutritional Education Program. Program touched 2,700 youth and 60 teenage mothers.
 

$16,190. Fatal Vision....Walton County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety program to prevent highway accidents. Walton County has the highest percent of accidents in the state. This grant partnered with a Governor's Grant for a safety educational program to prevent highway accidents. The program is being presented to school age children and civic clubs by the Walton County Sheriff’s Department.

$4,000. Connect With Kids....Social Circle Board of Education established a two part program for prevention of health problems in teenagers. WCHCF funded the first part dealing with health issues such as weight, safety, stress, tobacco, alcohol, drugs and sex.

$15,000. FISH4KIDS Feeding Program....FISH requested assistance with their impoverished children sack lunch program for children during the summer by providing a sack lunch for kids who normally wouldn't get a meal. Their initial cost estimate is $54,000.

$50,000. Teen Clinic....Walton County Health Department relocated the ACES program to the health department campus on S. Madison Avenue. WCHCF assisted with new expenses that were incurred with the relocation.

$13,800. Defibrillators In Parks....Walton County Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with the Walton County Emergency Service purchased and placed defibrillators in all ball parks in Walton County. The purchase included training and security of the units.

$25,000. Pandemic Influenza Preparedness in Walton County, Georgia....A grant was made to Walton County Emergency Management Agency for publication and mailing of brochures informing county citizens about influenza and how to prevent its spread.
